Under the Better Access initiative, consultations with a psychologist attract a Medicare rebate when referred with a Mental Health Treatment Plan. When you prepare this plan for your patient (Medicare item number 2710), this enables them to receive a rebate of $124.50 for each consultation with a Clinical Psychologist and $84.80 for each consultation with a Generalist Psychologist. Through our EFTPOS terminal, we can process your patients’ rebate for the consultation immediately. After six consultations with your patient, we will write you a letter outlining their presentation and treatment. This letter may help you assess progress, and where appropriate you may wish to complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan review (Medicare item number 2712) which will allow patients access to further sessions. We also are more than happy to communicate about patients throughout treatment, as required. For various reasons some patients prefer to see us without a Mental Health Treatment Plan. In such cases, patients with private health insurance covering psychological counselling are eligible for a rebate. For further information, patients should check their insurance policy or contact their insurance provider. Also, patients should be aware that they cannot claim from both Medicare and Private Health Insurance for the same consultation. Through our HICAPS terminal we can process your patients’ private insurance rebate for the consultation immediately.

We also assess and treat patients referred through ReturnToWorkSA, Department of Veterans’ Affairs and other organisations. Patients can also choose to fully self-fund the consultation.
